It is getting to that point of year again where the bells will start to ring and the money will fall.

It is the time for giving to charities and helping those less fortune than us. But does it really help? Does that spare change idea really help those that are in desperate need?

Yes, it does. If everyone were to donate a few cents to those pans, it would really start to add up. Think about it. There are roughly 300 million people in this country. If each person donated one dollar, that's about 300 million dollars to charities that could be used around the world to help those in need.

It could cure diseases, end hunger, and maybe even put a stop or even just help to poverty. Imagine what we could do if everyone donated five dollars, ten dollars, or even a hundred dollars. We could really change things for the world and could solve many of the world's problems.

There are many countries around the world that need the help. Everyday you can turn on the news and see new places in dire need of money. People are hungry, children are working and diseases are still spread. People are dying from many things that we have protection from.

Organizations around the globe try to help. UNICEF helps children to get food, shelter, and even have an education. ONE is a campaign to end poverty and cure AIDS in third world countries.

This campaign is actually supported by many celebrities including George Clooney and Julia Roberts. Everyone has also seen the pink ribbon campaigns to stop breast cancer. Even Facebook has the Causes application, which allows users to donate to a worthy cause.

If you can't spare the extra change or want to help on a local level, you can always donate canned goods or even old toys that are in good shape to help those in trouble.

I remember one year when my family was low on money one Christmas and my mom could not afford to buy gifts for the four of us kids. We were part of a church that knew about our situation.

The congregation gathered together food and toys for my family so that we were actually able to have a Christmas. It was a great help and made our Christmas.

You can always donate canned goods to your local food shelter. There are always cans of foods in cabinets that you know you will never eat.

Why not donate and help someone that will eat it? Many shelters are bare and need the food, especially around this time of year. Any food would be appreciated.

It's not hard to donate. There are Web sites, shelters, and even workers on the street. It doesn't take much and you can really help someone in need. Together, we can help make the world a better place. All it takes is a few cents.
