Thankful for a lot of things

It's that time of year again-time to express what you are thankful for. This is probably one of my least favorite aspects of the holiday season.

Now, don't get me wrong, it's not like I'm ungrateful, it's just that no matter what anyone says, it ends up sounding cliché and cheesy. Nevertheless, I am thankful for many things.

First, and foremost, I'm thankful for God. See, it sounds like I'm giving the generic acceptance speech for the Emmy's or something. But no, seriously, I am more thankful for God than anything else. There's no way that I could make it a day without him.

Within the past couple of months my relationship with Him has grown significantly; this is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I'm also thankful that I found the Wesley Foundation here on campus. Because of it I have been able to strengthen my faith and meet new people. Even more, I have become close with my minister, Paige, and she has given me guidance in many areas of my life.

I'm thankful for my mom, dad and little sister, Shelby. Charleston is close enough to home that I can visit my family when I want, but far enough away that they can't drop in unexpectedly-the best of both worlds! I am also thankful for my Aunt Jenny and my Maw Maw and Paw Paw. Family is one of the most precious things in the world and mine is wonderful.

Laura Valcore is the most amazing person I have met and I am extremely grateful that she is a part of my life! She moved to Denver this summer for graduate school, so I'm thankful that she has been able to come back to Charleston to visit and that I was about to go out there a couple of weeks ago. I'm also thankful for the rest of my friends, especially Cory, J, Anna, Shelly and Ashley. Without them, I don't know how I would have survived this semester.

Finally, I am thankful that I am going to be spending this Thanksgiving with a wonderful meal with my family. This is probably normal for most of you, but for many, it's just a dream. Some people are unable to get home for the holidays and some people don't even have families to spend it with. There are also many people who will go hungry on Thursday.

Maybe these things seem mundane, maybe they don't. Either way, they are all things that I am extremely grateful for, not just on Thanksgiving, but every day as well.

Ash,
I agree- it seems like this is the only time of year that people stop and think about what they are grateful for. It would seem to me that people would take a moment out of every day, just to let someone know they are grateful they are in their life, or appreciate things a little more. (Continued…)
