Why I'm thankful

Once a year, I sit around the table at home and recall what I am thankful for with my family. But I realize I think about what I am thankful for all the time. I just don't tell anyone.
I wake up every morning thanking God I am still alive. I do complain when I have to be up for my 8 a.m. class, but I get up because I have the opportunity to get out of bed and walk to the building where I get my education.
I am happy I have the ability to rely on myself. Some people do not have that privilege. I worked with a woman over the summer who could not walk and her disability made work a little more difficult to get done than others. It made me realize how much my abilities meant to me.
I am thankful for being 20 years old. I have experienced many things in life already. I have traveled to many places for vacation. I traveled to New Orleans (CHECK AP) last Thanksgiving break to help with the Hurricane Katrina relief and this Friday I am leaving for Kansas to help with the Greensburg tornado relief.
I have had the opportunity to receive scholarships and awards for my academics and extra curricular activities so far. I would not be the person I am today without being involved in high school and here on-campus.
In my twenty years, I have bungee jumped, raced go carts, went to concerts at the House of Blues in Chicago, have met famous music artist such as Travis Barker, Hawthorne Heights, and Story of the Year, sailed in the gulf of Mexico, was on NBC News for a high school swap, worked with the handicapped, volunteered my time for the unfortunate, worked in Wisconsin Dells, and much more.
I am thankful for the opportunity to receive an education. I have worked hard all my life to get where I am now. Without the teachers and mentors I had in high school, I do not think I would be here. I am grateful for the teachers here who make me feel welcomed and comfortable in my classes. They offer many opportunities to improve grades and to get involved in the classroom.
