This floor doesn't not have a bathroom for males. Because of this situation, the female must escort her male quest to the basement where there is a bathroom for him.

You and your friends (both men and women) decide to hang out in your dorm room one weekend night. You decide to watch a movie and have some pizza with pop. It gets late and one of your friends of the opposite sex needs has to use the restroom. However, everyone knows that it is against the rules for the opposite sex to use the bathroom on dorm floors.

Now you have some choices to make. You can let the person use the bathroom on the floor regardless of the rules and risk getting both of you in trouble if they are caught. If that does not work, you could take the person all the way to the basement and leave your crazy friends in the room without you. Or, everyone can tag along for a field trip to the only bathroom for the opposite sex in the basement.

This seems like a hard choice to make for such a simple idea. Wouldn't it be easier if they could just use the bathroom on the floor without the consequences?

I understand why the rule is the way it is. Many people are uncomfortable with the fact that the opposite sex is using the bathroom right next to you. I could see the horror with some guy accidentally (or even purposely) walking in on a girl (or vice versa). Talk about embarrassing. I can also see some people abusing the whole thing if the rule was changed. I really would not want to wake up in the middle of the night to use the restroom and hear two people together in the same shower. Ew.

However, I do not see why we can't change the rule a little bit, and add some restrictions. Many schools do have co-ed floors and bathrooms where everyone does everything together. We are all adults here, and we could do a little compromising.

I believe the rule could be the opposite sex is only allowed in the bathroom part and not the showers. This solves the problem of people in the showers and the uncomfortable part of being naked together. If the person who lives on the floor also stood near the person in need of the bathroom, they could watch to make sure nothing strange is going on. They could use the bathroom quickly and get out of there no problem. Each floor could even vote on the rules and punishments to make sure everyone's voice is heard in a democratic way.

Overall, compromise might not be such a bad idea.
