Website gets students to rate their professors

Ratemyprofessors.com boasts over 6,000 different schools with over 1 million professors on their website. While I didn't check every school and professor to verify that bit of information, I'll trust the site, because Ratemyprofessors.com has over 840 professor listing at Eastern Illinois University alone, which is more professors than I even knew worked at EIU. Ratemyprofessors.com, for those of you who have not been to the site, is a database of reviews of professors posted by students, or really by anyone who wants to post a review, as the site has no way to restricting ratings, anyone is free to rate anyone. A website with this much information could become key when choosing what teachers you want to take for that Econ class next semester.
Do you want the teacher who assigns homework every week but is labeled as "hot" or do you want the teacher who is dull and boring but has easy tests? With Ratemyprofessors.com you can find out what people have rated teachers on scales of 1-5 in the categories of Easiness, Helpfulness, Clarity, and Rater Interest.
You can also choose whether or not you feel a teach is "hot," a completely worthless but still fun option. This site basically takes the place of you asking your older sibling what he thought of a professor and whether or not you should take that professors class, but this website could be just as unreliable as your sibling was.
That brings us to the big questions with Ratemyprofessors.com, does it really work? With such an open website anyone could review a professor, even terrorists! Generally speaking, the more reviews a professor has, the better chance you're going to have in getting a good idea what the professor is really like, but even with multiple reviews you still have the fact that everyone's interests and preferences are different, and while nine people may hate this professor, you might really enjoy him. Because of this uncertainty, many students avoid using Ratemyprofessors.com and just go by advice from other people or just choose blindly, just like the days of old.

I disagree with the above remark. I think in these tough economic times we need to rethink our old ways of thinking.
